Encounters is a project that explores the way in which we perceive natural environments both in person and through photographs. Often when visiting or passing through natural areas, we may be too busy or distracted to fully appreciate our surroundings. This work intends to capture the details in nature we encounter, but do not notice.
Although photographs cannot replicate reality, they can sometimes provide similar feelings of calm and quietness that we may experience when surrounded by nature. The work aims to do this through my chosen compositions and by overexposing the images. The translucent aesthetic of the images encourages viewers to look slower and take in the entire scene, whilst also transforming the subject into a dreamlike state.
