Drunken Sailors
Since the age of four years old, I have been training in Ballroom and Latin dance, attending competitions across the UK. To me, the world of competitive ballroom dancing is one of familiarity and comfort, however, from an outside perspective it can appear peculiar and bizarre. It was this idea that inspired me to shed light on a culture that may not be familiar to everyone, and to highlight some of the processes that take place to create the common aesthetical stereotype of a ballroom dancer. For this project, I chose to focus on the rituals, carried out by every dancer, leading up to a competition or performance and highlight them as something alien and absurd.
