This project looks at how we view and take in the world around us. When we are looking, our mind is constantly absorbing new information sometimes making it hard to fully perceive what we are looking at.

These photographs have been taken whilst on my regular walks. I usually take the same routes in both Portsmouth and in my home town, but despite these locations being familiar to me, I do not always acknowledge the things I see within them. Giving myself time to stop and observe these locations, and taking photos of subjects and scenes that I wouldn’t normally notice, has allowed me to see these areas differently.

I grew more familiar with these locations through post production, spending time with and transforming each image to give them an unfamiliar yet tranquil feel, offering a different viewing experience to how you would see them in real life.

I think this work is mostly documentary, not in the way that it shows facts, but in the way I am recording my findings through photography. Other artists who work in similar ways such as Awoiska Van Der Molen and Sonja Braas.
